Book Haul #33

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  The Sunday Post is a weekly event hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week as well as other interesting book news.

Holy cow, this is my last book haul for 2013.  Everyone says it, but it’s so true – the older you get, the faster the time flies.  Anyway, I only have one new book thing to add to my collection.

The Special Edition Harry Potter Paperback Box Set by J.K. Rowling
This is the only book set I asked for for Christmas, and I’m so glad it was under the Christmas tree.  At first I had mixed feelings about the new covers, because I love the originals so much.  But then I realized that it’s important to update the covers.  I’ve seen kids in the library turn away from amazing books because their covers are outdated.  Not that I think the original covers are outdated yet, but someday they could be.  Anyway, now I have two full sets of Harry Potter.  I see nothing wrong with this 🙂

Life Tidbits

  • This week has been kind of rough.  But it was nice to spend time with my family on Christmas.  If you celebrate Christmas, how was your holiday?
  • I have one more week of work, and then I’m off for nine days.  My stay-cation coincides with Bout of Books, and I’m sooo going to read a ton.  I still have to put together my sign-up and goals post, but I’m excited.
  • I haven’t seen the Doctor Who Christmas Special yet, and it’s driving me nuts.  I think it’s supposed to be available on iTunes on January 2nd though.
  • My dad made some amazing macaroni and cheese on Christmas Eve, and the left overs  are even better.
  • Do you guys have anything planned for New Years?  I’m the most boring person and never do anything.

I’m glad you had a nice time with your family. I’m planning to spend New Years with a friend. We’re quite boring and just hang out. It’s nice though. I think the new Harry Potter covers will grow on me. It is nice to update them. 🙂 Have a very happy New Year Quinn!

  2. Oh my goodness, those Harry Potter books are beautiful! It’s like a piece of art on your bookshelf!
I’m glad you had a nice Christmas, even if it wasn’t as peaceful as you’d have wanted. I had a great Christmas with my family in Norway, but now we’re back home, and my oldest son is staying in Norway for a year to go to school and play hockey. It was very, very sad to say goodbye 😦
On New Years, we had invited some friends over, but they cancelled – they are traveling instead 🙂 and since I love to travel myself, I can’t say I blame them. We’ll see what we will do now instead.
Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy New Year Quinn 🙂

  3. I just got the Kindle collection for Harry Potter and they are awesome. Now I can read HP wherever I go. There is no such thing as too much HP. Happy reading!

I loved the new covers and together the look is so clean. Harry Potter is one of my favorite series ever and now we are going to have some new books really soon.

  6. I don’t care that I already have two sets of HP books. I need to have these. They are so pretty and it would give me a good reason to re-read them for the 100th time :p

  7. That Harry Potter set is fantastic! Love it! I haven’t seen it before. I’ll have to add it to my wishlist. 🙂

  8. Sorry Christmas was a bit rough for you but happy you spent it with family. I spent it with my babe. It was nice. As for New Years, no plans yet.
    Happy New Year!

    My Book Haul

  9. I love the boxed set. I have some of HP in paperback and some in HC, so I think I need a new set, yes?

Happy New Year! I don’t know what we’re doing this year yet, but we usually just do appetizers and watch movies. It’s low-key but fun.

  10. Good for you! Those Harry Potter books do look awesome.

For the past few years, I’ve enjoyed a quiet New Year’s Eve with movies, popcorn, and champagne at midnight. Think I’ll do the same this year! Hope you enjoy your evening….and the week.

    Here’s MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES

  11. I LOVE the Harry Potter books, I have all the old ones, maybe I will need to get the new one. (yes I will need them) lol. We are spending New Years at home with a bunch of family and friends. Eating and drinking to much 🙂
Hope you have a great new year and enjoy your time off

    Happy Reading

I love that Harry Potter set. I need it! I haven’t seen the Doctor Who special either so I’ve been avoiding the internet like the plague. Haha.

  13. I’m glad you got the HP set, especially since you wanted it so badly! I was unsure about new covers too, I hated the ones they brought out a few years ago that were all white. These ones I like a little bit more. There’s definitely nothing wrong with having multiple sets of HP! 🙂 My STS.

  14. So everyone knows I failed my Harry Potter Challenge this year, BUT I gotta say… seeing that box set might be just what I needed to light a spark! That set looks awesome!! My new goal is to read the first book by the end of February. Wish me luck!
Can I have some mac n cheese???
