Welcome to my Express Lane Reviews, where I review a book quickly – with 7 points or less – so you can get on your way!
Summary from Goodreads:
With THE LOOK OF LOVE, bestselling author Bella Andre introduces you the Sullivan family. In this fun and emotional contemporary romance series, when a Sullivan bad boy falls…he falls hard. And it’s forever.
Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?
As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is—until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love—and protect—her, but will she let him?
Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart.
*so, I’m starting a new type of review on my blog called Express Lane Review. The idea is that these types of reviews are quick (think express lanes in grocery stores), and each review will have 7 (or less) points. Let me know if you like them, or if you have any advice. I’ll still be doing my regular reviews, as well. I just wanted to have some variety in my review structures*
Point One: After reading the fourth book in Andre’s Sullivan series, I knew I wanted to read more. I decided to read The Look of Love next, because it’s the first book in the series. Although I did like this one, I didn’t like it as much as I Only Have Eyes for You.
Point Two: Chloe’s had a rough couple of years, so it’s completely understandable why she’s set against getting involved in another relationship. I liked that Chloe wasn’t stand-offish or anything, just determined to be strong and independent.
Point Three: Chase is pretty much impossible not to like. He’s very honorable (gosh I love an honorable hero!), and he goes out of his way to help Chloe when he sees her stranded on the side of the road during a downpour.
Point Four: Chase falls for Chloe very fast. In fact, it felt like a major case of Insta-Love. I don’t always mind insta-love, but this was a little much even for me. The whole book takes place ove a week! That’s pretty quick, especially for adults, to fall in love, if you ask me.
Point Five: This is an adult romance, so there’s definitely sexytimes. I don’t mind sexytimes at all, but there was a lot in The Look of Love. I was getting really sick of reading about all the sexytimes that Chloe and Chase have. I wanted more story, less sexytimes.
Point Six: I did like The Look of Love, and I definitely want to read more of Bella Andre’s Sullivan series. There’s a lot of Sullivans, and I love that each one has their own personality. But The Look of Love is definitely not a favorite, and it isn’t one that will stand out in my mind even a month after finishing it.
