Book Haul #38

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  The Sunday Post is a weekly event hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week as well as other interesting book news.

I only have a few books to share with you this week, again.

these broken stars

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner
I’ve heard such wonderful things about this book, and even though science fiction isn’t my usual read, I had to give this one a try.  Also, PRETTY COVER!

Kami Garcia/Unbreakable

Unbreakable by Kami Garcia
I’m not sure if I’m actually going to read this one.  A teen patron from the library said I HAD to read this, so I checked it.  We’ll see if I actually get to it.

From Amazon:

it had to be you

It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
If you’ve been following my blog lately, then you might have noticed that I’ve been on a huge adult romance kick.  And I heard good things about this one.  It’s an oldie, but a goodie (I think anyway).

Life Tidbits

  • I felt way too lazy yesterday to post my Friend Me Friday post.  I feel kind of lazy, but not that bad really.  I head a topic and everything, I just didn’t feel like typing it.  But I will just use it for next Friday.
  • I decided to do that Blind Date with a Book display at the library, and I’m really excited.  It’s where we (the librarians) wrap library books so you can’t see the cover or title, then encourage patrons to check out a book blindly.  I’m doing it for the kids, and it involves SOOOO much wrapping.  I hope it’s a success.  I’m going to put the display up Saturday.
  • I’m so excited for Cress!!!!  I have already preordered the Audio from Audible.  And I’m trying to finish my current audiobook (The Girl of Fire and Thorns) by end of day Monday, so that I can jump right in with Cress on Tuesday.
  • I keep watching The Fault in Our Stars trailer.  And I get very emotional at the end.  And I’m not even one to cry in movies – but I’m sure when I see this I will be a total basket case.  What are your thoughts on the trailer?

About Quinn

I'm a twenty-something children's librarian at a public library in Central New York. I've long left my teen years behind me, but I love to read YA and children's books. I have two adorable dogs. Ginger is a mix between a poodle and havanese, and Daphne is Bichon Frise. Other things I love: Favorite Movie: Singing in the Rain Favorite Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Favorite TV Show: Monk

  1. I LOVED These Broken Stars! =) And the trailer for TFioS is amazing and I am a crybaby for movies or TV-shows so I’ll bawl my eyes out when I see the movie probably.

These Broken Stars was definitely a good read! I really enjoyed it. And some friends and I are binge-reading the Fire and Thorns series this month. Did you enjoy the first one?

  7. Happy reading! I tried “Unbreakable” but couldn’t get into it.

  8. I want to read These Broken Stars so badly. I look forward to seeing what you think. I really hope you love It Had To Be You. It was one of the first “adult” romances I ever read and it helped start my obsession (along with Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I). Happy reading!

  9. I love the sound of the Blind Date idea. I hope you’ll post about it, and I hope you get some great feedback from the kids.

I loved These Broken Stars, and I think it will appeal to non-science fiction fans. I still need to read Cinder and Scarlet, I plan to do it early this month, because I’ve got Cress on reserve at the library, and I need to be ready!

I don’t like to cry… which is why I haven’t read Fault in our Stars, nor do I plan on watching the movie. Sometimes it’s good to not get a lot of books in a haul.. then you know you can actually finish the books in a good amount of time!

I hope you like your books! I’m dying for Cress too!!! I saw a couple of online bookish Blind Dates and I was thinking that would be a fun feature that I may start doing once in a while – maybe for my monthly giveaways or something. I think it’s just a really fun idea! I hope it turns out for you at the library. I picked up too many books this past week, but I want to read them all. 🙂 Have a great week!!

Go ahead, make my day! No really, comments make my day! Let me know what you think.
