Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.
Okay, so I thought this was going to be a lot more difficult that it turned out to be. I’m surprised with how many new authors I actually read in 2013, but I’m so glad that I read fairly widely. Woot! It’s always nice when I manage to impress myself.
In no particular order . . .
1. Rainbow Rowell
She’s definitely number one! I started with Eleanor & Park, and immediately read Attachments and then Fangirl. I’ve loved them all!
2. Barry Lyga
I Hunt Killers and Game are some of the best mystery/suspense novels I’ve read in a long time. And the character development is fantastic, too.
3. Marissa Meyer
I read both Cinder and Scarlet at the beginning of 2013, and I cannot wait for Cress. I’ve heard absolutely amazing things.
4. R. J. Palacio
I read Wonder at the beginning of the year, and it still makes me think about things. Such a wonderful middle-novel. I can’t wait for Palacio to write more novels. Wonder should have at least one a Newbery Honor award, and I think it’s insane that it didn’t.
5. Sarah MacLean
I’ve just read a few of her earlier books these last few weeks and all I can say is: “Why did I wait so long?”
6. Julianne Donaldson
Okay, so I’ve only read one of her books (but she’s only written two!), but I loved the one I read – Edenbrooke.
7. Kasie West
I haven’t read her Pivot Point books, but The Distance Between Us was utterly adorable, and I want more books like it.
8. Robin Benway
What can I say, sometimes I’m a little slow on jumping on the bandwagon. That certainly was the case with Benway, but I finally did get on that bandwagon with Also Known As.
9. Lish McBride
Another author where I’ve only read one of his books, but I think he’s only got two, so that’s not so bad. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer was such a fun book, unique book, and I definitely plan on reading the sequel sometime soon.
10. Elizabeth Wein
Yeah, so I’ve only read Code Name Verity, but what a book, right?

Life Tidbits
- I was so sick this weekend. I had some kind of stomach bug, and I was pretty miserable. I had all these great plans for this weekend, and of course I wasn’t able to do any of them. But, I’m feeling ever so much better.
- I can’t believe Christmas is NEXT WEEK. I’m totally not ready. But I’m not too far behind, so that’s good.
- I’m looking for a new TV show to watch. I’ve finished Doctor Who (so freaking good) and I’m not sure what to watch next. Any suggestions?
Once again, this is a list of my TBR’s haha (although I’m making Fangirl an ABSOLUTE priority for 2014!)
As for suggestions…have you watched Sherlock or Supernatural? They’re pretty standard tv shows Whovians watch and I really like both of them.
I definitely would have had RR on my list, if I hadn’t read Attachments last year. Definitely a great trio of books! And yay for Robin Benway, R.J. Palacio and Marissa Meyer. You read some awesome authors this year!
Sorry you’ve been sick 😦 Definitely a good idea to try a new show for some comfort viewing. I like The Good Wife, Nashville, Scandal- tv drama types, not sure if you’re into that or not. But like Elizabeth suggests, Sherlock and Supernatural are faves of Whovians 🙂
OMG I recommend you Pivot Point! We have Rainbow and Kasie on the list! Lovely authors!
Great list!
Oh good list!!! I have Rainbow Rowell on my list too (and so does everyone else because she’s fab!!!). I also have Barry Lyga… can’t wait for Jasper Dent #3!!!!! I was told on Friday by my book club that I have to read Code Name Verity… so that’s going to be a priority in 2014 for me 🙂
My TTT
So many good books/amazing authors on your list!
Barry Lyga, Marissa Meyer, R.J. Palacio and Lish McBride are great! I loved their books. (can’t wait to read the final book in Lyga’s series, the end of the second book was cruel)
If you liked Doctor Who, then you would LOVE LOVE LOVE BBC’s Sherlock…. IT’S SO GOOD!!!
Marissa Meyer :D! I’m starting to get interested in Rainbow Rowell, since her name is on every list I’ve visited so far.
Great list, Quinn! I haven’t read any of these authors yet, but most of them are already on my TBR, and I’m really looking forward to them.
I’m glad you’re feeling better! Being sick during the weekend sucks even more than just being sick 😦
I have the Barry Lyga books in my to read list, Had kind of been thinking about not bothering with them to be honest but your opinion is making me rethink that. Great list
Rainbow Rowell and Sarah MacLean also made my list! I am loving Sarah MacLean’s historical romances (I didn’t think I would!) and I want to read more of Rowell’s books…hopefully in 2014. Great list, Quinn!
Sarah MacLean made my list too! She was the first author I read this year, actually. Love her! Now that you’ve discovered Robin Benway, you MUST read Audrey, Wait! It is a favorite YA contemp of mine. So funny & just so dang good!
I haven’t read many of those, but several–Lunar Chronicles, I Hunt Killers, Code Name Verity–are all ones I”m going to try and get to this coming year. Great list! 😀 Happy Tuesday!

Rainbow Rowell made my list too. Also, love seeing Elizabeth Wein on here. Code Name Verity was such a good book! ❤
You HAVE to read Pivot Point. I loved it even more than I loved The Distance Between Us. It was so clever and quick. Head over heels for that book and one of my top reads of the year.
Great list.
My TTT List
Great list! I had Marissa Meyer on mine as well! I hope to get to Kasie West and Elizabeth Wein early in 2014… as well as Rainbow Rowell! So much reading to do! 🙂
Erin @ Let’s Evaluate
So glad you’re feeling better! You could do what my family does and watch Doctor Who again from the start. We’re on our third cycle now. If that’s not your thing, you could try Sleepy Hollow. We also love that – so snarky and subtle, but exciting and mysterious also,
Rainbow, Sarah MacLean, and Robin Benway made my list, too! I am so excited to read Attachments in 2014. And I can’t believe I left Kasie West off! I don’t know what’s wrong with me!
Yeah for Sarah MacLean, Marissa Meyer, and Rainbow Rowell. I just bought Also Known As this morning because I remembered you mentioning how much you liked it. I need to read Barry Lyga now.
Fangirl is a book I’m definitely looking forward too! I’ve read Cinder and Scarlet is sitting in my TBR pile now! Great list!!

Great list! I should have added Rainbow Rowell to my list as well – how did I forget her???
I love this list. Rainbow Rowell, Marissa Meyer, R. J. Palacio, Kasie West and Elizabeth Wein have all made my list of Authors I NEED to check out in 2014. Fingers crossed that Santa brings me some of them!
Have you ever watched Arrow? That’s a really good series. Supernatural is also awesome! And Beauty and the Beast is strangely addictive. I think it has something to do with the very buff guy! 🙂
I love seeing Marissa Meyer on everyone’s list! It makes me feel better that I waited until 2013 to read Cinder.
Wow this is kind of full of authors I am still dying to read myself – Barry Lyga, Marissa Meyer, Rainbow Rowell and Kasie West. I can’t wait to get to all of them in 2014, glad to hear so many amazing things about their books 🙂 My TTT.
