Book Haul #19

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  The Sunday Post is a weekly event hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week as well as other interesting book news.

Stacking the Shelves

Sunday Posst

My library got some new YA books in this week, which was awesome.  I did control myself, though, and only brought two home.  But a library hold also came in, which makes my total three books.

From the Library:

Golden by Jessi Kirby
Okay, I’m not really sure if I’m going to read this one.  I’ve heard good things, but I really had issues with In Honor by Kirby, so I’m a bit hesitant.  But the cover is so pretty, so I thought I’d at least check it out.

caged graves

The Caged Graves by Dianne K. Salerni
This one just looks perfect for fall, don’t you think?  Although, for all I know, it’s set in Spring or Summer.  🙂

sweet evil

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins
I’ve heard such wonderful things about this book, I’ve just never gotten around to it.  Hopefully, this will be the time.

What did you guys get this week?

Life Tidbits

  • I might be a little MIA the next few days.  At work, we have this HUGE booksale tomorrow (Sunday), which means I get to work seven days in a row straight.  It’s a great fundraiser, but it’s both physically and mentally exhausting.
  • My poor mama has kidney stones.  I hope she’s better soon.  I hope that wasn’t TMI.
  • I got my hair done yesterday, and asked for a few face-framing pieces.  They’re super cute.
  • I’ve been on a big Daria kick lately.  I forgot how much I love that show.  When that show was first on TV, I loved that a character was named QUINN!
  • I’m thinking of subscribing to Audible.  Actually, I’m pretty much decided, I just haven’t set up an account yet.  I’m excited!  There are some books I really want to listen to that my library system doesn’t have as audio.  I Hunt Killers I think will be the first one I download.  Woot, woot!

About Quinn

I'm a twenty-something children's librarian at a public library in Central New York. I've long left my teen years behind me, but I love to read YA and children's books. I have two adorable dogs. Ginger is a mix between a poodle and havanese, and Daphne is Bichon Frise. Other things I love: Favorite Movie: Singing in the Rain Favorite Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Favorite TV Show: Monk

  2. OMG! I love Daria..she was my hero when I was younger!

  3. Sweet Evil, oooh! I’ve heard lots of things amazing things about it, too and I’ve been wanting to read. A little jealous here, aha– but seems like a fun book haul. 😀

  4. Bree says:

I read Golden because it was free on one week, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! Hope you give it a try!

  5. I still haven’t read Sweet evil either.. Have fun with your subscription to Audible :D!

  6. Christina says:

Fantastic books. I LOVED Golden and Sweet Evil. I hope you enjoy both! I am dying to read Caged Graves…so I look forward to your thoughts. It does seem like the perfect fall read. I met Dianne a few years ago b/c she is a local author and she is SOO nice! Enjoy all of your books and I hope your mom feels better soon!

  7. I really liked Golden, haven’t read In Honor but it’s on my shelf.
LOVE Daria, I’ve been watching it from the beginning on Netflix.

  8. I really enjoyed Sweet Evil; I have the second book I need to read still! I’ve heard good things about Golden. Enjoy your books!

    Here’s my haul

  9. I really enjoyed The Caged Graves. I have Golden but I haven’t read it yet. I tried Audible, but I decided I’m just not a audiobook person. I think if I had a long commute, I would love it. Have fun reading!

  10. Lisa says:

I really liked Golden. It’s way different from In Honor, but it really depends on why you didn’t like In Honor. (Nevermind, I just read your review. Honor was super self-centered, but I don’t remember anything like that in Golden.) Anyway, I hope you like your books! If you do read Golden I’m definitely looking forward to what you think.

  11. Lori says:

I read Golden first and then In Honor and liked Golden much better! I really hope you’ll give it a try. It’s very different and very beautiful.
Also, I finally caved and subscribed to Audible a few months ago and have been loving it so much! I’m so happy I finally went for it! I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

  12. Jillyn says:

Sweet Evil has been on my list for ages. Enjoy your weekend, and your books 🙂

I really enjoyed Golden. It was my first of Kirby’s books. I still haven’t read In Honor. Happy reading!

See how I stacked my shelves.

  14. I really liked Sweet Evil so I hope you enjoy that one. I haven’t read any of Jessi Kirby’s books, but I’ve heard mostly good things about Golden. I hope you like Audible…I joined about two years ago and I am obsessed! Regarding your mom, I feel for her…I have kidney stone issues at times. Not fun! 😦

    Happy Reading!

  15. I looked into Audible at one time but it seemed too pricey when compared to my library price. I just can’t justify the cost. I hope you like it. Happy reading!

Aww, I hope your mom gets better!

I got the Caged Graves a few weeks ago from the Library and never got to it. I hope you enjoy it! Have a good week!

  17. Hope you enjoy the books you picked….it’s always fun when that happens. I feel for your mom and the kidney stones. I’ve never had them, but I’ve heard they’re excruciating. But fixable, so good luck to her!

Enjoy your new hairstyle. That’s always a pick-me-up.

  18. I hope your mother feels better! I’ve read Golden and really enjoyed it, though I haven’t read anything else by Kirby so I can’t really compare. I want to join Audible but I don’t really have the extra money for it right now. 😦

  19. I’ve had an Audible account for a few months and enjoy it. I hope you do, too. 🙂

  20. Great haul. I hope you like Golden, I thought it was really good. 🙂

  21. Berls says:

I’ve wanted to read Sweet Evil for a while – I hope you enjoy it! Sorry your mom’s under the weather, I hope she feels better. And yes, yes sign up for audible. I stared off with one credit a month, but I’ve upped it to two credits and I still buy books on top of that. I have memberships for 3 libraries but their audio book collections aren’t great and there’s always a long line for the books. So I’m a big audible fan 🙂 Have a great week!

  22. Cyn says:

Oh, I’ve been meaning to check out Sweet Evil too! Hope you enjoy it!
Have you seen the (I think it’s SNL) live-action of Daria on youtube? It’s pretty funny and had me wanting to rewatch it haha. Good luck with the big book sale!
Thanks for stopping by Bookmunchies (:

  23. Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace says:

Thanx for visiting My Weekly Wrap-Up!

  24. Nice haul! I was looking at The Caged Graves at the library last week but decided to get it next time and Golden looks Grand. I got a copy of Sweet Evil last year and I still haven’t read it! I hope you enjoy it and review it because I’d love to see what you think. I hope your Mom feels better! Kidney stones are no fun so I hope she’s resting up 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post Quinn!

  25. I need to get around to sweet evil too. I think I have it on one of my ereaders

  26. Auch kidney stones are really painful. I hope your mum is better soon.

  27. Gayatri says:

I have read ‘Sweet Evil’ and loved it ! I don’t know about Golden because I too didn’t much like “In Honor”, so maybe I will read it or maybe not.
