FF Hop

It is up to you to do a Kickstarter campaign for your favorite book!!! Who are you casting for the main characters?

I’m switching it up a bit today, and not focusing on a YA book.  I know, it’s shocking!

This seems to be the week of The Scarlet Pimpernel for me.  I talked about the book in my TTT post, and in my review of Life After Theft.  So I thought it would be prefect timing to cast the leads for this book for this week’s Friday hop.

I’m actually basing the characters from the movie version of The Scarlet Pimpernel from 1982, because I like that story the best.  So there.  🙂

Anyway, the book takes place during the French Revolution during the Reign of Terror when the French Revolutionaries were sending French aristocrats to the guillotine.  The Scarlet Pimpernel attempts to save as many of the aristocrats as possible.

There are three leads:
1.  Sir Percival Blakeney/The Scarlet Pimpernel – the hero of the story, a British noble rescuing French aristocrats from the guillotine.  Avoids suspicion by pretending to be a fool.
2.  Marguerite St. Just – A French actress who falls in love with Percy – does not know Percy is the Pimpernel.
3.  Paul Chauvelin – works for the French government.  Has a relationship with Marguerite.  Wants to capture the Pimpernel, and will use Marguerite to do so.

For Percy/The Scarlet Pimpernel I think Tom Hiddleston would be perfect.
I think he has the acting chops to pull off silly Percy, and smart Percy.  He certainly has that high brow look to him, which is perfect for aristocrat Percy.  Also, that smile of his just seems so Percy to me.  It shows how lovable Percy is, the fool Percy, or the real Percy.  And I’d love to see him in period costume!!!

TomHiddleston

How can anyone resist that smile?

Casting Marguerite was so difficult for me.  Marguerite has a past, and whoever plays her needs to show Marguerite’s intelligence, as well as her love for her brother and for Percy. I really thought about this, and I’m thinking Sophia Myles would be a great Marguerite.  I haven’t seen her in a lot, but I think she pulls off the whole period look, and I also think she could show the depth of Marguerite’s character.

I think this photo is from that Doctor Who episode.

And for our villian, Chauvelin.  It’s sort of a toss up for me between James McAvoy and Ewan McGregor.  I think McAvoy is adorable, but I also think he could pull off being the baddie.  Chauvelin has charisma, and McAvoy has tons of that.  Of course, so does Ewan McGregor, and McGregor can definitely pull off period costumes.
