Top Ten Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.

It’s so exciting when a favorite book is turned into a movie or TV show.  I mean, of course, I’m always really stressed about whether or not the director/producer/screenwriter/actors will do a good job, but also, I’m really excited.  It’s sort of like I get to experience a favorite story for the first time again.

Anyway, so this week I’m listening ten books that I would love to see movie/TV show adaptations of.

In no particular order . . .

1.  The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy
Okay, so this book has already been turned into a movie a few times, but it’s been a really long time since the latest one.  I would love to see a new take on this story.  And to see Percy brought to lift by a wonderful actor would just make me so happy.  🙂

2.  Heist Society by Ally Carter
I thought this book was good, although it’s not a favorite.  The whole time I was reading this book, though, I kept thinking this would make a great movie.  Or a TV Show.  Actually, I think it would make a kick-ass TV Show.

3.  The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
I would love to see Flavia (assuming the get an awesome actress to play Flavia) solving all the crimes in 1950s England.  So much fun.  I’m picture something along the lines of Foyle’s War.

4.  Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Two words: Daemon Black.

5.  The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.
I just love these books so much, and would love to see a film adaptation.  I wouldn’t want it too sci-fi though.

6.  Also Known As by Robin Benway
This is such a fun book.  The characters are awesome, and unique, but also totally relatable.  Although I could see this as a movie, I think it would be a kick ass CW show.

7.  Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
I picture this one as a movie.  It’s a wonderful story, but it also has quite a bit of suspense, which really works for movies, I think.

8.  The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy.
Seriously, how awesome would this be as a movie?  Or a TV show?  All those fun characters.  Maybe something similar to Once Upon a Time, only way more funnier and lighter.

9.  The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade
Don’t you think this book would make a great TV series?  It’s funny, it’s got romance, it’s got the supernatural.  What’s not to like?

10.  The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
I think the mystery aspect to this book would make for a great movie/TV Show.  Plus, yay for Jay and Violet and the supernatural bits.

So there are my picks.  What books would love to see a movie/TV adaptation of?

  1. Amen to the Body Finder! I loved this book (and still have to pick up the others in the series), and Jay and Violet are one of my favorite book couples. Oh, and the Scarlet Pimpernel is a great pick too! It’d have to be a really good Percy though *fingers crossed*

    • Quinn says:

I haven’t read the other Body Finder books, either, but I do have them from the library. I just need to find time to read them now.

And seriously, a new Scarlet Pimpernel. Dream come true – assuming they cast an amazing Percy. 🙂

  2. I would love to see Flavia alive on the big screen
    My Top Ten

  3. Michelle says:

I picked The Ghost and the Goth for a TV series too!!! I think it would be really cute to have Alona as Will’s spirit guide on TV and they could also explore that whole secret society that Will’s dad was in too. Thirteen Reasons Why is being made into a movie w/ Selena Gomez as Hannah I believe 🙂

    • Quinn says:

Seriously, The Ghost and the Goth would be so much fun as a TV series.

I had heard that Thirteen Reasons Why was going to be a movie, but not that Selena Gomez had been cast. Hmmm. . .

  4. ChrissiReads says:

I think it would be so interesting to see what they did to the Lunar Chronicles. I completely agree though hopefully it wouldn’t be too sci-fi! Great list!

  5. Obsidian would be pretty cool. I’d also love to see CInder adapted! It’d be FANTASTIC!!! And I think Ally Carter books would be brilliant as films of TV shows!

  6. Although I haven’t read The Ghost and the Goth, I think the story sounds uber cute, and it is definitely a movie I would go and watch 😀
    My Top Ten post 🙂

  7. “Two words: Daemon Black.” I totally agree with you there. But for the Lunar Chronicles, I imagine it really sci-fi to highlight the setting a lot.

    • Quinn says:

Haha. If Obsidian ever gets made into a movie, they would need to cast the PERFECT Daemon, and I imagine that would be quite a challenge.

I guess my fear for The Lunar Chronicles, is that the movie makers would concentrate too much on the cool science fiction stuff, and not enought on the actual characters. And I think the characters make these books so good, not the science fiction setting. Just my opinion, though.

  8. Great list! Obsidian is also on mine 😀

    My TTT

  9. I meant to read Obsidian and Cinder for AGES now but I can’t seem to get to it, but if you say they should be a movie, then they should be a movie :p

    • Quinn says:

You shoud read them! Especially Cinder. I mean, I love Obsidian, but it is very romance-y, which I love, but romance isn’t everyones cup of tea. But Cinder and Scarlet. Wow – they’re so good!

  10. Judging solely by the cover of The Ghost and the Goth, it sounds like that book would make a hilarious television show! I want to add the title to my reading list right away. Talk about a good cover.

Plus, I agree with the Heist Society. It would make a great movie as long as the producers kept it from going too much in the children’s movie direction.

    Check out my TTT:

    • Quinn says:

I actually find The Ghost and the Goth cover a little cringe-worthy. But the book is awesome and hilarious and just so much fun. And it would make for such a fun TV show, I think. You should give the book a try.

I agree about Heist Society. I wouldn’t want it to be a Disney Channel movie – not that there is anything wrong with that, I just think it would be better if it didn’t go in that direction.

  11. Thirteen Reasons is on my list too! I’ve read Obsidian, but I didin’t think to include it in the list. The rest of the books here I haven’t read yet, but some are on my TBR.
    Top Ten Tuesday
GIVEAWAYS: American Girl on Saturn and Heist

  12. Sandie says:

Great list! I know “Thirteen Reasons Why” has been optioned for a while by Selena Gomez’ production company — with her set to star (in fact, she’s also holding up “The Sky Is Everywhere”) — but so far neither has moved ahead much, since she seems to be debating what kind of career she wants. It’s a shame, since I don’t think she’s right for either role!
Everyone has the Lunar chronicles on their lists, so clearly I need to add them to my TBR pile!

  13. Liesel Hill says:

Great list! I enjoyed the Jane Seymour version of The Scarlet Pimpernel, even if it’s pretty old, now. I think all these would make great films! 😀

    My TTT

  14. Daphne says:

the ghost & the goth would be fantastic! as would the body finder (i just really want to see who would play jay). i would kill to see Cinder on the big screen, or actually, it would be better as a tv show b/c it would last longer! Also known As is on my list & i think it’s a great choice 🙂

    • Quinn says:

I would just love to see The Ghost and the Goth as a TV series. And seriously, to see who would be Jay from The body Finder! I love him to pieces. I would take Cinder as a Tv Show or Movie. It would be great either way. 🙂

  15. Christina says:

Great list! I completely forgot about The Body Finder, which is one of my favorite YA paranormal novels. It would be a fantastic movie!

  16. talksupeblog says:

Yes on Cinder! Arnold Schwarzenneger’s Terminator ain’t got nothing on Cinder!

    My Top 10

  17. amshuman says:

I just finished Cinder, and I think it would make for an interesting movie.

    My TTT

  18. I love two words in this post: DAEMON BLACK. he would have to be cast soooo well tho!!!!

  19. I would love to see Also Known As as a CW show, that’s a great call. All of the lists are making me mad that I can’t watch these TV shows or see these movies!

  20. I loved the Anthony Andrews/Jane Seymour version of The Scarlet Pimpernel (and Sir Ian McKellen made such a fabulous Chauvelin!). but I would also love a good remake. Did you know there is a recent British TV series or miniseries? I think it’s on Netflix. I should watch it.

    As for Cinder, definitely!

    Here’s my TTT list.

    • Quinn says:

Oh my gosh, I love the Anthony Andrews TSP! I did know of the British Miniseries, and saw parts of it, but I wasn’t madly in love. It was such a long time ago, though, that I should look into it again.

  21. Your the second person I have seen with Heist Society, it’s such a good choice! As long as they don’t turn it into a super cheesy flick it would be really cool to watch. I completely agree with Cinder as well.

  22. I would love to see Cinder as a movie!

  23. Thirteen Reasons Why would gut me as a movie. I anticipate a lot of tears if that ever made it’s way to the big screen. Cinder also found it’s way onto my list. How could it not?

    Great list, thanks for sharing!

  24. Heist Society would definitely make a good movie/TV show…was quite disappointed with the second book though! Have you read the third? Great list!

  25. I agree with so many on your list like Obsidian, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Cinder, and Thirteen Reasons Why. Daemon Black on the big or small screen would just make my year! I’ve haven’t seen any of the Scarlet Pimpernel movies, which one do you recommend? I’ve read the book and seen a few stage adaptations and really enjoyed them.

  26. Oh Cinder. It has the potential to be such an amazing movie, just like the book! I hope if they do do it, they get it absolutely right. I haven’t read Heist Society, but that seems like one that would translate well to movies.

  27. Hannah says:

I put Heist Society and Cinder on my list, too! I agree that they’d both be such amazing movies 🙂 I haven’t read Also Known As, but I actually thought it’d be a great movie just based on the summary when I was scrolling through Goodreads to try and pick books for my list this week!

  28. The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom sounds like it would be fun to see. The book is still on my shelf to-read though.
Here are my Top Ten .

  29. I would LOVE AKA as a TV show/movie! I think 13 Reasons Why is going to be a movie w/Selena Gomez.

Go ahead, make my day! No really, comments make my day! Let me know what you think.
