Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.

Ooo, ooo, ooo, I love this topic!  I love awesome secondary characters.  You know those ones I’m talking about.  Where they almost steal the show, they’re that awesome.  Anyway, here are my top ten favorites.

In no particular order . . .

1.  Roux from Also Known As by Robin Benway.
Seriously, Roux is just so awesome, and fun, and she cracked me up non-stop!

2.  Iko from Cinder & Scarlet by Marissa Meyer.
She’s just about the most wonderful android/robot thing ever!

3.  Dee from Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
Oh my gosh, I want a best friend like her.

4. Feniul from Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George
A dragon who is a puppy hoarder.  Hmm, I don’t identify with that all 😉

5.  My Lord the Cat from Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
My Lord is just a regular cat.  He has no lines or anything.  It’s just that I’ve never wanted a pet cat, except while reading this book.  And, of course, his name would be My Lord the Cat.

6.  Hans Peter from Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George.
He was just so lost, but always willing to be there for his littlest sister.

7.  Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments & The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.
If you’ve read these books, you completely understand.  Am I right?

8.  Iorek Byrnison from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman.
His willingness to help Lyra is amazing, and Lyra’s love for Iorek makes me love him even more.  Someday I’m going to name one of my dogs after Iorek.

9.  Hagrid from The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
Obviously!  Also, when I get a Newfoundland Puppy, I’m gonna name her Hagrid.  It’s the perfect name for a Newfie!

10.  Grandma Mazur from The Stephanie Plum novels.
Oh my gosh, I wanna be Grandma Mazur when I grow up 🙂

About Quinn

I'm a twenty-something children's librarian at a public library in Central New York. I've long left my teen years behind me, but I love to read YA and children's books. I have two adorable dogs. Ginger is a mix between a poodle and havanese, and Daphne is Bichon Frise. Other things I love: Favorite Movie: Singing in the Rain Favorite Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Favorite TV Show: Monk

  2. Elizabeth says:

My Lord the Cat!! You are a girl after my heart, I say. And also Iorek (how on EARTH did I forget him for my list? There is now a sad gaping hole in the heart of my list)

  3. Magnus Bane made my list for certain. Hagrid was such a great character.

  4. Rebecca says:

I love Hagrid. ❤ I also have a soft spot for Iko, which is surprising, since she's a robot and all. Dee is so quirky and fun! Happy reading. 😀

  5. Lucy says:

Roux is such a great choice! And yay for Dee too. There are many memorable secondary characters from TMI but I agree that Magnus Bane is the stand-out. Fab list, Quinn!

  6. ChrissiReads says:

I can’t believe I forgot Iko. I love that character! Great list 🙂

  7. Um. I’m going to have to hunt down some of these!

  8. I definitely thought of the Stephanie Plum minor characters. A hoot.

Here’s my list of best secondary book characters.

  9. I can’t believe I forgot Iko this week!! She’s a character I adore, but am always forgetting to mention. And then Hagrid!! Such an incredible guy.

  11. Candice says:

How did I forget Magnus?! I listed Simon, but totally didn’t think about Magnus! He’s my FAVE! And Iorek… SUCH a good character! Great list this week Quinn!

  12. Iko and Hagrid, great! I’ve seen many HP characters, but you are the first to list Hagrid 😀 Fun!

  13. Liesel Hill says:

I’ve got a couple of HP picks, but I didn’t think to put Hagrid. *smacks self in forehead* I’m just reading book 2 of the Mortal Instruments, so I’ve only met Magnus Bane once, but I’m looking forward to seeing more of him since he made your list. 😀

  14. I love Magnus and all his glitter and weird clothes and magic and daaaaaaamn.

  15. Yay Roux! I have her on my list, too. And great list otherwise!

  16. I love Iko too though I forgot about her when making my list. Hah…I want to name a dog Hagrid as well and I’m hoping it will be a Newfoundland! Thanks for sharing!

  17. Jess says:

HAH! I agree with everything on your list, including St. Clair!

  18. Hannah says:

Completely agree on Iko! I loved that secondary character (maybe even more than I loved Cinder). I bought Also Known As but haven’t read it yet but I’ve seen Roux on several lists so that makes me really excited about this one 🙂

Go ahead, make my day! No really, comments make my day! Let me know what you think.
