Book Haul #15

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  The Sunday Post is a weekly event hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week as well as other interesting book news.

Stacking the Shelves

Sunday Posst

Holy cow, you guys, I picked up so many books this week.  In anticipation of Bout of Books (which I still need to sign up for) and, after that, my ten-day staycation, I went on a placing-holds spree, and lots have come in.

Book Haul 15

From the Library:

Emma by Jane Austen
So I thought since the creators of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries will be doing Emma next this would be the perfect time for me to actually read the book!  I thought I would try the audiobook.

The Last Echo by Kimberly Derting
I loved The Body Finder, but I haven’t read the rest of the series.  I put the whole set on hold, but this one is the only one in so far.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
So many people rave about this book, and the series.  And with the trailer released . . . well, I thought I would give this a try.

Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool
This is a middle-grade book.  I loved Vanderpool’s Moon Over Manifest, and this one has been on my TBR list since before it’s release.  Hopefully I get to it in the next few weeks.

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard
Another one that’s been on my TBR list for age.  I’ve heard good things.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson
I’m a terrible YA book blogger for not having read these.  Hopefully I can remedy that soon 🙂

The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross
The Girl in the Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross
These looked fun.  I’ve heard good things about this series, too.

Life Tidbits

  • I know I keep talking about my upcoming staycation, but I’m just so excited.  I haven’t had a full week off in a year, and I am so needing some non-work time.
  • My dogs went to the vets this week.  Daphne is in good health, and has gained half a pound.  She weighs 11 pounds and13 oz.  Ginger has lost a pound (she now weights 18 points) but I think she might have a urinary infection.  Poor baby.
  • The weather in Syracuse has been gorgeous all week!  Who else has been having wonderful weather lately?
  • I watched Jack the Giant Slayer on Thursday.  It was surprisingly good, you guys.  It was way better than Snow White and the Huntsman.

About Quinn

I'm a twenty-something children's librarian at a public library in Central New York. I've long left my teen years behind me, but I love to read YA and children's books. I have two adorable dogs. Ginger is a mix between a poodle and havanese, and Daphne is Bichon Frise. Other things I love: Favorite Movie: Singing in the Rain Favorite Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Favorite TV Show: Monk

Great haul this week! I’ve only read the first Vampire Academy, I enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would! I hope you enjoy all of your books that you’ve got this week 🙂

  3. Yay for VA! The first book in the series wasn’t the best, but trust me, it gets a whole lot better with the growth of the characters.
I haven’t read the Rae Carson’s series either and now I feel bad after reading your comment! LOL! 😀
I hope you enjoy your lovely books, Quinn! 🙂

I feel like I’m missing out on something by not reading Vampire Academy. I know a movie is going to be coming out, so maybe I’ll read it before then. I’m interested to see what you think about it. It seems to be a favorite in the book community.

Also, I was going to read Emma too. Haha. I still haven’t finished watching LBD though. Boo! I’ll have to do that after Bout of Books. Like, I really liked it when I was watching it before, so I don’t know why I haven’t finished the whole thing. *shrugs*

Enjoy your books! (And your vacation! Woo hoo!)

  7. Nice library haul! Vampire Academy is the only one of these I have read but I liked it. Good luck in the Bout of Books challenge. Happy Reading!
    Here are my newest additions.

  8. That’s a great stack of books! I haven’t read The Girl of Fire and Thorns yet so don’t feel bad. I even have the first book, but haven’t gotten to it yet. I hope you enjoy Vampire Academy…it is one of my favorite series. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Yay for Mead’s books, I ADORE Vampire Academy. And I have yet to start Carson’s books but I cannot wait. 🙂
    Happy reading!

    My haul

  10. LBD is doing Emma! SAY WHAT? I’ve totally got to read Emma before this happens! Just the motivation I needed. Thanks! Also Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series ever. I definitely recommend it. I will say I loved books 1 and 2 but if you’re not hooked, you’ve got to at least stick with it until book 3. You’ll see why. GAME CHANGER! Have a great week!

  11. I hope Ginger feels better! My puppy, Leia had a UI last year and she was miserable. (I was too since I had to keep taking her out every 15 mins). I still need to read every single book you picked up this week! I hope you enjoy your new books, Bout of Books, and your staycation!

  12. There is nothing better than curling up and doing nothing but reading! Enjoy!

  13. I enjoyed Vampire Academy and we all enjoyed Jack the Giant Slayer. 🙂 Have a great week!

  14. Greg says:

That’s a good looking lineup of books! I haven’t read Emma either, or much Austen, but I’m at a point now where I kinda want to try them. I appreciate the movies but should read the books…

  15. Cyn says:

Lovely haul, definitely looks like you’re prepared for your stay-cation! I’ve been recommended Kady Cross’ stuff for a while, so will definitely have to check it out soon. Happy readings & happy vacation!

  16. Lizzy says:

I enjoyed The Body Finder, too, but I haven’t read any of the rest of the series. There are a bunch of books out now, so I’m hopeful that my library might have them. I’ve been interested in “The Girl in the…” series (I’m sure it has a real name haha), but I haven’t gotten around to grabbing the first book. Happy reading 🙂
