Top Ten Favorite Kick-Ass Heroines

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.  I love today’s topic!  Kick-Ass heroines are my favorite!  This was surprisingly easy.  I hope I didn’t leave anyone out.  This list is in no particular order.

1.  Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.  Obviously!
2.  Annabeth from Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.  Again, obviously!
3.  Lyra Belacqua from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman.  I love her determination to save those she cares about.
4.  Amy Goodnight from Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore.  She takes on a ghost, a murder and a guy who thinks she looney-tunes!  Go Amy!

5.  The Lass from Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George.  She saves the prince!
6.  Ella from Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.  She saves herself!
7.  Clare Fern from Clarity and Perception by Kim Harrington.  She’s not afraid to go after the bad guy!

8.  Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  She can take on her mother, the sometimes-snobby Mr. Darcy, Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
9.  Melinda from Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.  She learns how to stand up for herself even after an awful experience.
10.  Ani/Isi from The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.  She learns how to stand up for herself and for others.

What do you think?  Do you agree?  Did I forget anyone?  Who’s on your list?

Life Tidbits

  • There’s a possibility that CNY may lose power for awhile due to Hurricane Sandy.  I hope not, but I may be quiet the next few days.  If so, that’s why.
  • Wishing for the best for anyone who will be affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Ha, our first three are the same! I still need to read Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow as well as Ella Enchanted. And I agree with Melinda and Elizabeth! Great list.

    My TTT post

    Hi Quinn,
I totally agree on Elizabeth Bennett. Not just anyone could stand up for herself to the likes of Darcy and Lady Catherine. Hermione is the only other one common to both our lists, but I’ve rad some of the Percy Jackson, and at least heard of someof the others. 🙂

  3. Brittany says:

Ooh, very different choices from mine, but I really do like them! I’m super interested in Clarity and I don’t know how I forgot about Hermione! Texas Gothic is one I really need to read too.

  4. Liesel Hill says:

I think Hermione will be a popular pick today. Totally with ya there! And I totally forgot about Jane Austin’s heroines! *slaps palm to forehead* Great list! 😀 My TTTs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Tuesday! 😀

  5. Hermione is definitely a popular pick 😉 And I see some books on your list I really want to read. I better get started, because I love kick ass heroins!

  6. Candice says:

Great list. They’re all so different yet so fantastically kick-ass! 🙂

  7. Annabeth! And Lyra was such a plucky and tough character, definitely loved following her story growing up. Elizabeth Bennet also made my list this week =) Thanks for sharing your list :=)

Here’s my TTT for this week =)

  8. Ella Enchanted! What a great choice. I had totally forgotten about that book but she really was a great strong female character. I read this one as an adult and was surprised how much I connected with Ella, and how adult her journey really was. Nice throwback 😉

  9. Leah says:

I forgot about Melinda from Speak. Yes, great girl. I love your list.

  10. dixie says:

Very nice picks. If I were to pick a Shannon Hale heroine, I think I’d go with Miri, because she’s just awesome.

    My TTT:

  15. I found it difficult to find kick-ass girls from contemporary books but Melinda from Speak is a great choice! I wish I had thought of her. Great list!

  16. Yay for Texas Gothic and Pride and Prejudice! SO many great ladies on your list 🙂

Go ahead, make my day! No really, comments make my day! Let me know what you think.
