Deja Vu Review (6)

So, Brittany from The Book Addict’s Guide has started a new weekly feature called The Deja Vu Review, where we can give mini reviews of books we’ve read before we started blogging (or books we never wrote reviews for).  I think this is a great idea, and although it means I’m participating in five memes a week (I know that is crazy!  But I will still post at least two book reviews a week) I wanted to support Brittany.  Plus, it is fun!

Beauty by Robin McKinley
Rating: 4/5 stars
Mini-Review:  I love fairytale retellings.  Love them.  And Beauty and Beast retellings – well, count me in!  I had been meaning to read Beauty for a couple of years before I finally got around to it.  I must admit that it did take me a little bit to get into this one, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down.  Now, I am a little bit biased.  I do so love a Beauty and the Beast tale.  Not to mention my love of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.  But for fans of fairytale retellings and/or Beauty and the Beast, definitely look into this one.

All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn
Rating: 4/5 stars
Mini-Review: This one is a children’s chapter book.  And it is also a kick-butt ghost story, and you guys know how much I love ghost stories!  What I love about this one is that there are two kinds of ghosts in this book – the mischievous ones, and the really evil one.  All the Lovely Bad Ones has just the right amount of suspense, and creep factor.  Mary Downing Hahn is a master of creating amazing children’s ghost stories, and I have read many of them.  But All the Lovely Bad Ones is my favorite.

Have you guys read these books?  What did you think of them?

Awesome! I’ve really started to enjoy retellings too!! Have you seen the Fairy Tale Project Alison @ The Cheap Reader is hosting??
Maybe I could read a ghost story that’s a children’s book haha. I’m so terrified of ghost stories, you have no idea. I’m reading Anna Dressed in Blood soon and I have to admit, I’m a little scared lol!!

I have seen the Fairy Tale Project @ The Cheap Reader! I signed up for the fairytale East of the Sun, West of the Moon. So excited!!

I don’t know why I love ghost stories so much, because I hate scary movies. Hate them. But I love a good ghost story. Have you read Texas Gothic? There is a lot going on in that book – it’s not just a ghost story – I love that one.

But All the Lovely Bad Ones is fantastic. It definitely has a creepy factor, but it is really good. Mary Downing Hahn isn’t just trying to scare you, you know. There is a purpose to the story.

I have to say, I couldn’t get into Anna Dressed in Blood. I thought I would love it, but I thought the MC Cassio was obnoxious. I gave up about half way through. I love the cover for that one though.

Go ahead, make my day! No really, comments make my day! Let me know what you think.
