In My Mailbox #51 / Stacking the Shelves 10

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren.  Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week.

Stacking the Shelves

From the library:

zel

Zel by Donna Jo Napoli
I was inspired to read this one by Alison (The Cheap reader).  Seriously, if Project: Fairy Tale isn’t the best thing ever, I don’t know what is!

From Edelweiss:

Towering

Towering by Alex Flinn
Oh yeah, I am so excited about this one.  I loved Beastly!

From Netgalley:

revenge of the girl

Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg
I was so excited when I was approved for this!  I just started reading it, and so far, so good.  :)

Life Tidbits

  • So, for Singles Awareness Day (aka Valentine’s Day) my totally awesome mother bought me the Urban Decay Oz Glinda Palette.  It’s super pretty!  Also, my dad drove all the way up to my house to drop off a card and candy.  My parents are the best :)
  • Also, as a Singles Awareness Day present to myself, I bought the Too Faced Boudoir Eyes palette and the Lorac Mint Edition palette.  Seriously, I have no control when it comes to makeup.  :)  What’s your favorite eyeshadow palette?
  • I am so excited for Sunday, because I am heading to Rhinebeck, NY to see MARISSA MEYER!  Yeah, it’s totally all caps!
  • I’m going to an SU Women’s Basketball game today (Saturday) to see my cousin’s kids be all cute during the half time show (honestly, I’m not sure what it is called).  I can’t wait to see the cutie pies, but the whole basketball bit, well that’s not all that exciting to me.  So, I am totally bringing a book.  My mother rolled her eyes when I told her.  :)
  • I keep watching this video of the cast from Matilda at the Olivier Awards (seriously, go watch the video, guys, it’s adorable).  I’m hoping to see it in NYC this Summer!  I think it would be a wonderful way to celebrate my 30th birthday.  Although there probably isn’t a ton of good seats available now.  Hmm.  What do you guys think?
  • Heidi from YABibliophile sent me some Origami Yoda temporary tattoos.  The kids at my library are going to love them!  They are huge Origami Yoda fans, and love temporary tattoos.  Can’t wait to give them out next week.  Thanks a million Heidi!

  1. I don’t know any of those books! There are soooo many out there. I always enjoy reading your blog. Old follower.

You can check out my STS at: http://gwynnethwhite.blogspot.com/

  2. Haha looks like you had a great couple of days! I’ve never heard of Zel but Towering does look good and it is about time I give into the fairytale retelling trend that I’ve been seeing a lot of lately.

    Happy Reading !TheBookFaerie

  3. Towering! (L) So awesome that you got a copy, I can’t wait to read it! Pretty cover and such a great premise. Have fun at Rhinebeck! :D

Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality sounds awesome. I love Eulberg and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on her latest book. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. livredeamour says:

Very nice indeed. I always like to see people who have something different on their hauls.

  6. RotGwtGP sounds great! The others are new to me. Hope you enjoy all of your goodies this week!! :)

  7. Merin says:

I had to read Zel for my Fantasy Lit course in Grad School. I enjoyed it, but it was a lot darker than I’d been expecting! And I actually picked up the Glinda Palette a couple weeks ago and love the colors. I’ve been mixing and matching them and love how functional they all are.

Enjoy your books (and your makeup! :D )!

    My StS post :)

    • Quinn says:

YAY about the Glinda palette. I haven’t used it yet (because I bought the other two palettes – seriously, no will power!) but I can’t wait to use it. I love the pinkish and purplish shades. Oooh, and Aura. I might give it a try tomorrow.

Also, glad to know Zel can get a bit dark. I like to prepare myself for that kind of thing.

      • Merin says:

I don’t have any willpower, either. I picked up Sephora’s Cinderella palette, too, back when it was first released (I did the 4-color one, not the giant one, and really only love one of the colors). If you slap the word “Disney” on something, it’s bound to catch my eye!

      • Quinn says:

LOL. Me too! I bought way too much a few years ago from the MAC Venomous Villains collection. I had to force myself not to buy the Cinderella palette.

  8. I hope you enjoy Towering. It does look really good. Great haul.

I loved Beastly too. Fairy Tale retellings are so much fun and make me feel a little nostalgic.

Hope you have a great time at the signing!

  15. I met Marissa Meyer this weekend and she is awesome! She is really fun and she told us dark versions of fairy tales!

  16. JessDay says:

TOWERING!? I might have to read that one! Enjoy!

  17. Kelly says:

I love the cover of Towering! The girl model looks so gorgeous! :D
I’m also meeting Marissa Meyer this Monday! -squeals-
Happy reading & thanks for stopping by my STS! (:

  18. Towering by Alex Flinn looks good! I loved Beastly too. Thanks for stopping by my sts:)

  19. I haven’t read many fairytale retellings, so I might have to check out Towering. It has such a pretty cover! I hope you enjoy all of your books, and thanks for stopping by!

  20. Oh I cannot wait to get my hands on Towering. Beastly was fantastic and I still need to read Cloaked.

  21. Oh and I totally meant to respond. My favorite makeup palette is the Urban Decay Wallpaper Palette. An oldie but a goodie. Has a couple of my favorite UD shadows in it. Smog and Last Call.

    • Quinn says:

Ooooo, I’ve never see the Wallpaper palette. Smog is a great shade. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Last Call. Urban Decay has great eyeshadows.

  22. hayy6747 says:

Towering looks really good! I love fairytale retellings, so I should check it out!

  23. Alison says:

Yay for Zel! Hope you like it Quinn.

  24. I’ve not heard of those books but the last one has peaked my interests, I’ll have to look it up on GR! I hope you enjoy them all!

I have to check out the Urban Decay Oz Glinda palette, Urban Decay is actually my favorite brand for eyeshadows. There original Naked palette is probably my favorite(so much so that I’ve used up several of the shadows and had to buy singles). They always make beautiful palettes. I like Too Faced as well but I haven’t yet experimented with Lorac. I hope you enjoy them :P And don’t feel bad… my control is the same for eyeshadows/makeup as it is for books, which is none, lol.

Thanks for stopping by my haul as well Quinn :D

    • Quinn says:

Urban Decay has great eyeshadows! Their matte shadows are amazing! I love both original Naked palette, and the Naked 2. If you want to try Lorac, I highly recommend the pro-palette. It’s one of my favorites. :)

  25. Towering sounds like an amazing Rapunzel retelling. Also, Revenge of The Girl With The Great Personality looks great :) Enjoy your books!

  26. manda-rae says:

I just saw your goal to read 300 books this year. Woah! You’re nuts! (And I’m totally jealous!) And yes, I’ve read Number the Stars. It was super sad. I think I need to go pick up Beastly now. Happy reading!

    Thanks for visiting my haul.

    • Quinn says:

I know I have a high number of books to read, but it’s because I also read a lot of picture books. I’m a children’s librarian, and I like to keep track of the picture books and readers I read every year, as long as the chapter books. I am hoping to read 150 chapter books this year.

      Beastly is super, super fun.

  27. Lizzy says:

Love the cover for Towering! I’ve only read Beastly by Alex Flinn, but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and happy reading :)

  28. theairtwit says:

I randomly picked Bound by Napoli off the library shelf YEARS ago when I was kid, and I quite liked it — I should give her other books a try. Eulberg’s book sounds like a cute story, and I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. Enjoy your books and happy reading!

  29. I haven’t seen any of the books you have before but I hope you enjoy readng them.
Oh actually I’ve heard of the book from NetGalley but I didn’t know it was on there.. I’ll have to check it out.

  30. Andrea says:

Great mailbox! Towering is on my WL!
