Q: Happy Mardi Gras! If they were throwing the HOTTEST books off of a Mardi Gras float — what would you do to have them throw to you…?

Umm . . . nothing.  Here’s the thing.  There is this wonderful thing called a LIBRARY where people can borrow books for free without doing crazy things.  Sorry, guys, but I would never do anything crazy or attention seeking just to have popular books thrown at me.  Because I could get them at the library.  Sure, I might have a little wait time, but that’s way better than lifting up my shift, even for the super popular books.  Even for ARCs of books I’m dying to read.  Even if I could get a copy of Cress, I just wouldn’t do that.

Wait, actually, I might say “over here, over here.”  But that is it.  I’m just not into that.  Not that I wouldn’t totally understand someone else doing crazy stunts.

I'm a twenty-something children's librarian at a public library in Central New York. I've long left my teen years behind me, but I love to read YA and children's books. I have two adorable dogs. Ginger is a mix between a poodle and havanese, and Daphne is Bichon Frise. Other things I love: Favorite Movie: Singing in the Rain Favorite Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Favorite TV Show: Monk

  1. That’s exactly why the library is my best friend. My library at home (I’m at school now) always gets the newest YA books right away. I didn’t realize how spoiled I was until I left for college! Great answer :)

    Here’s my FF!

When I was at college, my college library didn’t even have any fiction books (unless they were somehow related to a class). But when I was a senior they started a popular fiction section.

LOL. That’s an excellent point. The other funny thing is that most people who love books the way we do are not the crazy, chest-flashing, ridiculous screaming types, so chances are if books were being thrown off a float, everyone would be orderly and polite to one another. The ones who wouldn’t be wouldn’t care about the books anyway. :D My FFs are at LKHill or Musings on Fantasia. Happy Friday!

  3. Yeah, honestly, when I think of what books could possibly motivate me, there’s really nothing I can’t wait for. Happy Friday!

I would try to get the attention to get one or two books I want to read now, but nothing outrageous!

I’m an old follower, here’s my my FF post for this week.

  5. Libraries are awesome, magical places! I think getting a book thrown at me might be a bit dangerous :)

I can understand your point. I don’t borrow often from the library, because I like to own my books, or if I do go to the library, its books I just happen to catch my fancy.

That’s something that I think the library is gret for – browsing. I am more willing to try out a book by someone I’ve never heard of if I can just borrow it from the library. That way, if I don’t end up liking it, I’m not out 20 bucks. But if I end up loving it, I can purchase my own copy.

  7. I agree 100%! I would never be able to do anything crazy like that to get a book, though there are no public libraries in my country. Nonetheless, I wont do something that would make me look like a fool :)

Haha, that question is a little ridiculous. I sort of hate that people do crazy things to get beads and throws during Mardi Gras, especially when all you have to do is yell “Throw me something, mister!” That being said, I sincerely hope one of the krewes or organizations that put on the parades wouldn’t throw books. That would be seriously dangerous.

    • Quinn says:

LOL. Now I have that rice commercial woman yelling that phrase stuck in my head :)

It would definitely be dangerous throwing books. Also, not so good for the books either.

  9. LOL I love the snarkiness of this post! Awesomesauce..I think people have forgotten what libraries are for!

    • Quinn says:

LOL. I didn’t intend to be quite so snarky. It’s just the whole idea of doing crazy things is way outside my comfort zone even if it is for books. And, come on, the library offers free books!!! You don’t need to be doing crazy things. Just have a little patience. But, you know, I am certainly a bit biased seeing as I am a librarian.

  10. Robyn Jones says:

I am totally a library girl. They don’t even scan my card first, they just turn around and grab my holds. But still, I love to own books too! Thanks for stopping by. I’m following via email subscription.

  11. Ink and Page says:

You wouldn’t even flash your Kindles or let them smell your perfume – eau de ink and page (no relation)?

    Here’s my sassy response.

I love to be wild and I love libraries! I am so conflicted! Thanks for stopping by!

  13. Susan says:

I had a similar answer to you! But I was thinking of the danger. Imagine all these thick, heavy hardcover books being thrown at you at a high velocity? LOL!

YAAYY LIBRARIES! As a librarian I love this :D However I can’t say that I wouldn’t get a little CRAZY for the new Gaiman LOL!

Also for you guys who think us book lovers are all poised and polite..I wish it was true but you should see some of the people at BEA! There were some biters last year! (I wish I was kidding..)

  15. hahaha great answer – this question wasn’t one of my favorites. I can’t really picture myself at one of those parades anyways…thanks for sharing!!

You’re cute, but sometimes I think your imagination is too limited LOL.
