Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish. This was a fun post to put together. Hopefully I follow through with them
In no particular order . . .
1. Read the majority of the books on the Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013
2. Read/Listen to books while I walk, do chores, etc. I’m not a very active person. I read all the time, and usually that means sitting on the couch. So I am hoping to do more exercizing and still getting to read tons.
3. Comment on other blogs. One reason I started this blog was to meet and talk to others that love to read like I do. But I am a very shy person, and it is hard for me to reach out to others. I’m hoping that commenting will help me develop some book friends
Okay, maybe my goal should be to not be shy.
4. Schedule more posts on my blog. I usually have some reviews drafted up, but I almost never put together TTT or WoW posts in advance. I want to get a little more on top of things.
5. Learn how to create graphics for the my blog. I’m pretty clueless about things like that, but I think it is something I could learn.
6. Read all the Caldecott winners and honors. Okay, this was actually a goal for me last year, and I totally didn’t follow through. Maybe this will be the year?
7. Read more Children’s chapter books, YA books and adult books than last year. I had a Goodreads challenge of read 400 books in 2012. The reason it was so high was because I included all the picture books I read. I actually read 128 chapter books. I would like to read 150 in 2013.
8. To not forget about the children’s and middle-grade books. In 2012 I read so many teen books, which I loved, but I read very few children’s books. I love them, and would like to read more in 2013.
9. Drop a meme. I think I might be participating in too many memes. Right now I am posting about 2 reviews a book. I want to increase that to 3 reviews a week, but most days are already taken with memes. I am thinking of dropping the Waiting on Wednesday meme. Sometimes I even have a difficult time finding a book to feature. I might only post a WOW on days where there really is a book I can’t wait to read.
10. Read one or two books outside my comfort zone. I just read Cinder, which was such an amazing book. But it is science fiction, which I pretty much don’t care for. But I loved Cinder, and there are probably tons of books out there that are also outside my comfort zone that I will love.
What are you bookish goals for 2013?

I really like your list! I didn’t include your #2 on my list, but it’s definitely an unofficial goal for me. Reading=great exercise for the mind, not so much for the body. I’m a little stumped as to how I will do this seeing I hate listening to audio books(I just don’t have the patience when I can read faster), and it’s not exactly safe to walk around reading a book in my hand. And I can definitely relate with the shyness as well. I’ve been commenting on a LOT of blogs since I’m new to the book blogging world, and it was so hard at first! But I’ve learned it definitely gets easier the more I do it.
#2 was inspired by Jamie, the Perpetual Page-Turner. She did a whole post about listening to audiobooks while she worksout. I actually love audiobooks. They do take longer than reading the book myself though. I don’t mind that, though. Definitely not safe to walk around reading a book! Especially in winter!
Listening to books as you do mundane tasks is a great idea, especially if they’re books you don’t want to actually read. I just did that with Bossypants while walking my dogs- it was super entertaining and the pups (and me) got in some extra mileage.
I got the idea from Jamie, The Perpetual Page-Turner. I have been thinking of listening to Bossypants. Glad you liked that
I love your list. I agree with #4. Please feel free to View My TTT
Scheduling posts will certainly make my life easier, and less stressful
such a great list! I’m hoping to do so many of these too especially get better about scheduling posts in advance I’m so bad at doing things last minute
my TTT
Yes, I am really going to try to schedule things. It will be much less stressful!
Number 2, same same. I just lie around all day when there’s a gym a two minute walk behind my apartment. Great resolutions!
I was inspired by Jamie, from the Perpetual Page-Turner. She wrote up a whole post about listening to audiobooks while she works out. I’m hoping to be able to do that. Yeah, I would never go to the gym, either. I don’t like to be around people while I’m working out and all sweaty and red-faced.
I also have #4 in common. And a lot of other ones too. I think it’s comforting to read people’s TTT’s this week and see there’s a lot of goals in common.
#5 is another one that I have too. I’m hopeless with graphics and want to get a more indivualized look to my blog.
I wish you the best of luck in completing your goals in 2013.
Number 9 – yes, better to do fewer and do those with heart!
Exactly!
I need to comment more also
And be out of my comfort zone. So great list!
My TTT: http://blueskyshelf.blogspot.com/2013/01/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-goals-for-2013.html
Reading outside my comfort zone is really difficult for me. But I definitely want to try that more this year.
Awesome goals! Posting in advance is such a time-saver! When I can’t do that, my whole week feels like a jumble.
My TTT
Definitely!
These are all really good and I love your list. I agree with them all, except that I don’t really do many memes. Actually this one is really the only one I do anymore and I rarely even do it. I kind of miss it sometimes! This is the first TTT I’ve done in ages. Anyway, great list. Some of these I could’ve added to mine.
I like doing memes. Especially TTT, because I think it shows everyone’s personality. But, too many isn’t good, I don’t think. Especially when I struggle to find a book to feature.
I love your list! #3 and #10 are on my list too. I’ve been blogging for a few years now, and I’ve only just started commenting on other people’s blogs. And I love #2! I’ve been trying to motivate myself to exercise more, and your idea is great.
My TTT
#2 was inspired by Jamie, from the Perpetual Page-Turner. She wrote up a whole post about how she’s beein listen to audiobooks while she works out. I am going to give it a try.
i hope to comment some more too! i appreciate your’s very much:)) and I’ve found so many amazing middle grade books this past year so i’m sure you’ll find number 8 a breeze!
I have been thinking of starting my Audible account again so I can read and walk at the same time!
Great goals! I share quite a few of them.
I can’t get myself to pay for audible. It seems kind of expensive. I try to find things at the library. Although Audible seems so convenient, so maybe I should look into it again.
Love your list, Quinn!
#2 is something I’d like to do as well, but for different reasons. I’m having kind of the opposite problem. I am up and moving around a LOT, doing housework, walking the dog, and so on. Because of this I barely have any time to read during the day! I think that having an audiobook to listen to while I clean the house would help me to get through way more books.
I love your goal of reading all of the Caldecott books, too. That’s definitely something I want to accomplish.
#2 was inspired by Jamie, the Perpetual Page-Turner. It’s such a good idea.
Hopefully this year I will actually read all the Caldecotts. I totally dropped the ball last year
Those are all great goals!
Looks like these goals will set you up for a great year! I couldn’t read as many books if I didn’t listen to audiobooks. I think a lot of us bookish people are a little shy and I can certainly relate to #3. Looking forward to getting some MG recs from you!
Good luck with all your reading and blogging goals
Reading out of my comfort zone made my list of goals too. i hope to learn more HTML so I can spruce up my website. Happy 2013
For your #2, I tried doing that, but failed. ):
I was washing the floor and trying to read Hourglass at the same time, but failed. It was either me getting so into the book I was forgetting what I was supposed to do or me forgetting to mop up a spot because I wasn’t focusing. Good luck on your goals!
& thanks for stopping by my TTT!
Oh no! I hope I can manage it
Scheduling posts (especially TTT) is so important because doing those at the last minute sucks! haha I actually have all of my posts scheduled for the rest of the month…we’ll see how long I can keep this up! Good luck
That’s awesome about having they all scheduled for the month! I need to do that.
I only do WoW sporadically, and I think it works pretty well. No offense to authors, but I’m not sure I could really come up with a book a week that I’m really dying to read.
Cinder was also a bit outside my comfort zone because I wasn’t certain about the sci-fi and fairytale mix. In the end, though, it really worked. I think it’s because I prefer sci-fi that is interested in humanity in some sense (like Cinder’s personhood although she is a cyborg), instead of being focused on explain cool technology.
Great goals!
I am only going to participate in WOW sporadically, too! It’s just too difficult to find something that I am dying to read.
I’d love to do more audio books too, while I’m cleaning or getting ready in the morning or something. And scheduling posts makes life so much less stressful. I love when I do it, but it’s hard to keep up with!
I love that you’re trying to read the all the Caldecotts because I set a goal to read at least 3 Newbery books and 3 Printz. I always mean to read the award winners, but sometimes get more caught up in the flurry of bestsellers!
Lauren @ Hughes Reviews
Something I always find funny about myself is that I usually end up liking the Newbery honors more than the winners.
I usually listen to an audiobook while I am getting ready in the morning. I love that! It is like I get reading time in before I get up for work, but I don’t have to get up earlier
Great list of goals! You have some lofty ones in there, but for the most part they sound pretty doable, so I hope that you’re able to accomplish most (if not all) of them this year! I also am incredibly shy, so we share the goal of interacting more with other bloggers. And learning how to create graphics/blog stuff is a good idea. Most bloggers must learn at least some HTML/CSS so it’s like a natural extension to learn some more, right?
Lots of comments from other shy people. I’m glad I’m not alone. Thanks for stopping by.
Great set of goals. Good luck with all of them! I avoided audiobooks for a while, but our daughter had some visual issues so she preferred audiobooks. After listening to them with her for a while, I was hooked, too. I still prefer print (paper or electronic) when my hands are free, but for driving, doing housework, and knitting, audiobooks are fantastic!
And kudos to you for not neglecting children’s and picture books in your goals. I’m fond of them myself, and once considered becoming a librarian myself. Instead I taught English and drama for a bit, then homeschooled my daughter.
As for being shy and wanting to make readerly friends online, it looks like you’re off to a good start with all these comments. Are you interested in building friendships on Goodreads as well? If so, please look me up; I’m there as The Bookwyrm’s Hoard.
I haven’t quite figured out how to get ahead of blog posts, I’m always posting right away, rather then scheduling.
I read so fast, i sometimes miss really clever word play (like in the Discworld books), so I have definitely found that that enhances my “reading” pleasure, if I read certain books. It’s also helping me get through Persuasion, which I am enjoying, but I hated it when I tried to read it on the page….
Good luck to you with your goals!
Wow! I love almost everything on your list! Number 1 is really great, I hope I would be able to do it too
Number 2 is the same for me, cause I’m a lazy person. It’s sucha great idea! I already started with #3, which why I’m here, and I really need to do 4 and 5! Great list! Happy 2013, and good luck!
My Goals for 2013
Thanks!
Such great resolutions. What a coincidence, I’m currently reading Cinder for the Bout of Books Read-a-thon.
All the best with your 2013 Resolution.
Cinder is amazing!
Good luck with all your goals! We have some very similar ones. I agree with you about Waiting on Wednesday…I’m thinking about changing up how I participate in that one as well.
Thanks.
I was terrible about reading children’s books last year which makes me so sad. I’m adding another goal to my own to read more children’s lit! It’s way too fun to leave out!
I agree completely!
You’ve got a great list here! Commenting is something I used to be better at, but it’s gotten harder the last year or so between work and family. I’m going to try though. I’ve missed visiting blogs and talking with friends about books.
I like your goal of listening/reading while your are doing chores and the like. I am trying to do more of that too.
Good luck with your goals and have a Happy New Year!
Thanks!
I’m totally with ya on the audiobooks. They’re really excellent for exercising/doing chores, and it would be good to incorporate some activity in the reading routine. Excellent list!
Thanks for visiting Jorie’s Reads!… All the best on achieving your goals in 2013!
