In My Mailbox #45 / Stacking the Shelves #4

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren.  Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga’s Reviews.  Here we can share what new books we’ve picked up this past week.

Stacking the Shelves

I picked up a few things from the library this past week.

chomp

Chomp by Carl Hiaasen
I’m borrowing the audiobook of this one and it is narrated by James Van Der Beek!  I wasn’t sure how he would be as a narrator, but he is really good!  I’m enjoying this a lot.  I love Carl Hiaasen.

dead and the buried

The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington
I actually was going to buy the book from Barnes & Noble on Tuesday (its release day), but B&N didn’t have it in (even though online it said it was in stock at the store!)  I went to B&N, and they said they didn’t have it.  Annoying.  But I did find it at the library, so yay!  I love ghost stories and Kim Harrington!

What new books did you get this week?

Life Tidbits

  • I’m on vacation!  Well, actually I’m on staycation but it is totally awesome.  I’m off work until Tuesday.  I’ve already been able to get a lot of things done.  And today I am devoting to house work, and READING (yeah it deserves ALLCAPS).
  • My dad came over Thursday to help me paint my breakfast nook.  There was some problems with the paint that was there.  The people that lived here before I moved in painted over wallpaper, so the paint was all chipping!  We had to scrape it all off, and then put plaster (or something like that) over it.  But it is a really small area.  And we painted the two walls that didn’t have the chipping paint.  My goals is for shelves to be installed on one wall for all my books!  It is a perfect spot.  When it is all done (which will probably be in a few weeks) I will take a photo and share.
  • I’m attempting to make chili.  I am not the best in the kitchen, but even my mom can make chili and she is worse in the kitchen than me.  So hopefully it turns out tasty. :)

I can’t wait to read The Dead and Buried too, especially since I love gothic type of books! And for B&N, I have the exact opposite problem, the stories already have the books released on Tuesday, but online, they said they didn’t. ):

My students love Chomp! It’s always flying off my classroom bookshelf, especially when I taught 6th grade. I had no idea the audio book was narrated by Dawson (he’ll always be Dawson to me-ha!). Enjoy your staycation!

  3. I also got the Dead and Buried this week :) Hopefully we both enjoy the read!

  5. I’ve read mixed reviews on The Dead & Buried.. I hope you like it! James Van Der Beek! That’s cool… hope you enjoy his narration. It’s a lot easier to listen to books with a good narrator for me. Nice stack! <3

James Van Der Beek is a good narrator. I wasn’t sure before I started the book, but he is really good. An excellent narrator is so important for audiobook. :)

  6. I can’t cook personally..my hubby does all the cooking in our family LOL Yay for staycation and I hope you gets lots of reading done!

    • Quinn says:

I can’t cook either. The chili didn’t turn out wonderful. I mean it is okay, but it doesn’t have a ton of flavor. I don’t know. But it was fun to try.

  7. Katja says:

I’m loving my staycation. Today is the first day where I’ve been able to really get some reading done. I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll also get a lot fo reading done. It feels so good checking books off my list!

  16. Omg! I didn’t know James Van Der Beek narrated a book! I may have to get it now just because of that. LOL Hope you enjoy your books this week! And thanks so much for stopping by! :)

    • Quinn says:

I know! I was shocked when I flipped the audiobook case over and saw Dawson’s face smiling out at me. And he is really good! He’s perfect for this book.

  17. I’ve heard great things about Kim Harrington’s writing and mysteries, though have never read any of her books yet, myself. Hurray that you get time to READ!! And thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

  18. Emily @ Too Many Books says:

Loved Chomp! I thought it was so funny.

  19. Merin says:

The Dead and Buried is on my to-read list. You’re so lucky your library has new releases so soon after their release! I always have to wait at least a month for them to come in, which is why I tend to request them well in advance if possible. :)

    Happy reading!

    • Quinn says:

I think my library system usually has new books around the release date. Books that are released at the end of December or in January though are tough, because many of the libraries can’t order any materials then. We are waiting for the new budget. I was lucky that one library did have The Dead and the Buried and that it wasn’t out on hold.

  20. The Dead and Buried looks really interesting :)

    Enjoy!
    My haul.

  21. Carmen B. says:

I’ve never read a Kim Harrison book but I love haunted house reads! I hope you enjoy it :) Good luck with the remodelling in your house! I also always get my dad to help me with that type of stuff ^^
Oh, and in reply to your comment on my blog: I like the Iron Fey series, but if you want to read a really awesome fey series to get into the sub-genre – Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series is my all-time fey favorite!

  22. I haven’t heard of any of these books, but I love ghost stories so I’ll have to check out Kim Harrison. Also, good luck with your Chili I’m sure it’s bound to turn out :D Thanks for stopping by mine!

  23. I want to read The Dead and Buried! I can’t wait to read your thoughts on this book :)
